When Should I Use 'Don't' and When Should I Use 'Doesn't'?
Question
When should I use 'don't' and when should I use 'doesn't'? — Learners Everywhere
Answer
Don't and doesn't are contractions of "do not" and "does not." To figure out when to use each on, you have to know when to use do and does. The verb does is used when its subject is third person singular (he, she, it). Do is used for all other subjects. Below is a chart showing when to use each form:
singular
plural
first person
I do
We do
second person
You do
You (all) do
third person
He does, She does, It does
They do
Don't and doesn't follow the same pattern:
singular
plural
first person
I don't
We don't
second person
You don't
You (all) don't
third person
He doesn't, She doesn't, It doesn't
They don't
I hope this helps.
